Alsdorf Large-Scale Battery Storage Facility

Medium-Voltage Trading Storage

At the Regionetz substation in Alsdorf, Voltfang stabilizes the power grid and sells electricity on the short-term markets. The large-scale battery storage facility is operational and combines day-ahead and intraday trading with balancing power. Voltfang implemented the project as a full-EPC contractor and is responsible for its technical operation.

Project Overview

One warehouse, three markets

The large-scale battery storage system is primarily used for grid services and electricity trading. Cross-market optimization generates arbitrage profits in the day-ahead and intraday markets. The storage system charges when prices are low and grid load is high, and discharges when prices are high and supply is tight. In addition, the 2-hour storage system provides primary and secondary control power (FCR/aFRR) and stabilizes the transmission system operator’s grid frequency.
