A container battery storage system is a battery storage system in containerised design. The battery, power electronics, control system, climate control and safety technology are combined in a single compact unit.
The container design is particularly relevant because it makes battery storage modular, standardised and scalable. Instead of integrating individual components on site in a complex process, a large part of the system is already prepared as a technical unit. In many cases, this is a complete BESS, which is used in commerce, industry or directly at grid level, depending on the application.
Container battery storage systems are used wherever larger storage capacities are to be provided flexibly, quickly and in a standardised form. Typical applications include:
The terms are often used in a similar way, but do not mean exactly the same thing. Large battery storage primarily describes the size and application class. Container battery storage, on the other hand, primarily describes the design. In practice, however, both characteristics often occur together.
For companies and project developers, the container design offers particular advantages in terms of standardisation, transport, scaling and project implementation. This allows larger storage systems to be efficiently planned, expanded and integrated into existing energy infrastructures.
A container battery storage system is a battery storage system in containerised design, in which the battery, inverter, control system and safety technology are integrated in a single compact unit.
The container design enables a modular, scalable and comparatively quickly installable solution for stationary battery storage.
Container battery storage systems are used for grid stabilisation, the integration of renewable energy, the provision of flexibility and in industrial and infrastructure projects.
Not necessarily. The container design primarily describes the physical implementation, whereas large battery storage describes the power and application class. In practice, however, the two terms often overlap.
Container battery storage systems offer high scalability, standardised system integration, flexible applications and efficient implementation of larger storage projects.
