Stuttgart Airport Goes Green
How does one of Germany’s largest airports become a role model for sustainable energy supply? Stuttgart Airport demonstrates how modern storage technology, smart control, and a green vision can work together. Together with Voltfang, the airport is taking a decisive step toward Net Zero – with a project that could set standards for entire industries.
Project profile: Stuttgart Airport
- Location: Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg
- Partner: Omexom Smart Technologies
- Planned expansion: up to 5.4 MWh
Benefits for Stuttgart Airport:
Implemented use case
The Voltfang battery storage system at Stuttgart Airport serves multiple purposes:
It optimizes self-consumption, caps peak loads, enables energy trading, and ensures a stable power supply – even with highly fluctuating energy demand.
Our customized solution
The goal is to make airport operations completely greenhouse gas neutral by 2040 at the latest. The current project marks a crucial milestone — and it’s only the beginning: a tenfold increase in storage capacity to 5.4 MWh is already in the planning stage.
Our commercial storage solution
Capacity up to
540 kWh
Connected load up to
1 MW – 2 MW
Dimensions
1600 / 2100 / 1535 mm
With its sustainable storage solution, Stuttgart Airport is setting a pioneering standard for the energy supply of transportation and infrastructure projects.
