Kerschgens sustainably reduces peak loads
How is a traditional industrial company in Stolberg setting new standards for sustainable energy? The Steel and materials trading Kerschgens shows how intelligent battery storage and local commitment can reduce peak loads, cut costs and sustainably reduce CO₂ emissions. Together with Voltfang, the industrial company is paving the way to an efficient and climate-friendly future.

Benefits for Kerschgens
Implemented use case
At Kerschgens, the Voltfang battery storage system ensures a stable and cost-efficient energy supply in industrial operations – even with fluctuating production requirements. At the same time, it optimizes self-consumption of the self-generated electricity and effectively reduces peak loads. The smart energy management system adapts flexibly to the specific requirements.
Aim of the project
Kerschgens is pursuing the goal of using energy sustainably, cutting costs and reducing CO₂ emissions. Following the successful installation of the 1.3 MWh industrial storage system, an expansion of a further 1.8 MWh is planned in order to further increase energy efficiency and secure a sustainable energy supply in the long term. In addition, the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles will be expanded and the vehicle fleet will be gradually electrified. The project underlines the importance of innovative partnerships and sustainable storage solutions for an economic and ecological transformation.
Our customized solution
A high-performance, modular storage system with a capacity of 1.3 MWh was installed. The battery storage system consists of requalified e-car batteries and is specially tailored to Kerschgens’ requirements. The system has an output of up to 736 kW to effectively reduce peak loads and optimally increase self-consumption.
