Aachen, May 6, 2024 – Voltfang, Europe’s leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance green energy storage solutions for industry and commerce, is expanding its management team to meet the strong demand and rapid growth in the European storage market. The company, headquartered in Aachen, produces battery energy storage systems (BESS) for commercial, industrial, and grid-based applications using repurposed electric vehicle batteries. Market reports predict exponential growth for battery energy storage systems. For example, Bloomberg expects global BESS installations to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27% between 2023 and 2030, reaching 372 GWh by 2030 (2H 2023 Energy Storage Market Outlook).
To capitalize on this growth, Voltfang is strengthening its management team with the appointments of Dr. Gerrit Janke as CFO, Dr. Boerge Wessling as VP of Sales & Marketing, and Ralf Schaffrath as VP of Production. Additionally, Voltfang has promoted one of its first employees, Alexander Vorndran, to VP of Operations. The extensive experience of the expanded management team positions Voltfang excellently to meet the increasing demand for energy storage systems and the growing interest from investors.
Janke, formerly VP of Investment Banking & Capital Markets at Credit Suisse, will help the company raise 8 million euros in equity this year. Wessling and Schaffrath, both of whom previously held senior positions at AIXTRON SE, will focus on expanding Voltfang’s sales and production capacities. Wessling will drive Voltfang’s growth in Germany and support its international expansion, while Schaffrath will oversee and optimize Voltfang’s production facilities. Vorndran will concentrate on further improving processes and procurement. David Oudsandji, co-founder and CEO of Voltfang, states:
“We experienced strong demand in 2023 and are seeing that growth is continuing to accelerate in 2024. Compared to the previous year, we recorded a threefold increase in order intake in the first quarter of 2024. Energy storage will play a key role in the energy transition, and Voltfang is benefiting from this trend. We have assembled the team and created all the necessary structures to establish Voltfang as the largest provider of green battery storage systems in Europe. I am pleased that our management team has such a wealth of experience, and I am confident that their expertise will help Voltfang become a market leader in energy storage.”
Janke comments: “Voltfang has developed exceptionally well in recent years under the leadership of an outstanding founding team. I am very excited about the opportunity to join Voltfang and actively contribute to the company’s growth. Since my participation in the seed financing round in 2023, I have been a strong believer in Voltfang’s business model and team. We are currently seeing more and more investors showing interest in the battery storage sector, which is leading to an increasing number of business activities. Voltfang is at the forefront of this highly attractive market, as storage will be the key factor in driving the energy transition forward. I look forward to supporting the team in the coming years.”
